Location Detail

Şanlıurfa and Göbeklitepe, often referred to as the “City of Prophets,” Şanlıurfa holds a deep spiritual resonance that stretches back thousands of years. It’s a city steeped in stories from Abrahamic traditions, revered by Muslims, Christians, and Jews alike. Among its sacred landmarks is the Pool of Abraham (Balıklıgöl), believed to be the site where the Prophet Abraham was cast into the fire, only for the flames to turn to water.

Just 15 kilometers northeast of the city lies Göbeklitepe, a site that has redefined human history. Dated to around 9600 BCE, it is the world’s oldest known temple complex—predating Stonehenge by 6,000 years. The massive T-shaped pillars, carved with intricate animal motifs, were arranged by hunter-gatherers in a ritual space that suggests a spiritual culture far more advanced than previously imagined.

The surreal landscape of Göbeklitepe—its circular enclosures and stark surroundings—evokes a mysterious, almost otherworldly energy. Combined with the ancient cityscape and religious ambiance of Şanlıurfa, this region offers a powerful sense of the origins of human belief, making it an extraordinary location for documentaries, historical dramas, and films exploring the sacred and the mythical.
